Extra society meeting to be held

An extra society meeting will be held at Tampere on Tuesday 29 January 2008 in the club room of Tampereen yrittäjänaiset, in Pellavatehtaankatu 12 C.

As there was no spring meeting in 2007, this extra meeting will go through the accounts for 2006 and decide on discharging from liability for the accounts for the 2006 board.

Before the meeting, we will present the results of the annual salary survey from 2007. This presentation will be held in Helsinki later in a local meeting. The official extra society meeting will be held at Tampere only.

2008 is on its way and the society is kickstarting its activities. Library has now been updated with the first Näkymä of 2008, minutes of the fall meeting, and the web 2.0 presentation from the fall meeting.

Results from the fall meeting

The fall meeting of the Finnish Technical Communication Society was held at Tampere in the Wanha Posti premises on Wednesday 28 November 2007 from 18 to 22.

The evening began with a short presentation on web 2.0 and it's meaning to technical communication. The actual fall meeting was held after the presentation. The meeting decided on a new board, membership fees for 2008, and approved the operational plan for the coming year.

The meeting minutes will be added later.

The fall meeting is held at Tampere on Wednesday 28 November 2007 starting at 18.00. The event takes place in the sauna + meeting room in Wanha Posti.

Register using the enrollment form. If you can't make it, please cancel your attendance two days before the event!

FTCS website is being updated

FTCS has a new webmaster. Thanks to the old webmaster for the excellent work! The pages are being updated. This time the changes are small and subtle but links may stop working while the work is ongoing.

New board and membership fee for 2007

The FTCS board has changed for 2007. Check out the board members for 2007.

The membership fee for 2007 is 25 euros (students 10 euros). See the instructions for paying the fee.

tcworld conference 2006 - The European conference on Technical Communication

8.-9. November 2006, Wiesbaden, Germany

"A truly international occasion, the tcworld conference continues the former European Information Development Conference and is the largest event in this field in Europe.
It is a key event and the major European platform for information and knowledge exchange in the technical communication industry. In addition to the popular localization forum (organized in cooperation with the Globalization and Localization Association GALA), this year we will also offer a forum on user assistance. The first OASIS Open Standards Day in Germany will also be held in Wiesbaden on 8 and 9 November to coincide with the tcworld conference."

Spring seminar

FTCS will host the annual seminar on March 17th, 2006, in Tampere. The official spring meeting is also held in connection with the seminar. The location is the University of Tampere, Pinni B building, room B1097.

The seminar is free-of-charge for members, but a registration in beforehand is needed.

Membership fees for 2006

The society membership fees are due by February 28th, 2006. For more information, see the instructions. 

FTCS has also decided to hand out a membership package for 2006. To receive one, please go and update your contact information.

New Year, New Board!

The new year is closing in faster than you may think. But fear not, the society is ready, for the annual general meeting has chosen a new board for next year. Nicholas Hill will continue as the head of the society. The new board members include Timo Haanpää, Tommi Hautalahti and Tarja Tolvanen. The deputy boardmembers are Isa Ågren, Suvi Isohella and Tytti Suojanen.

Harvest Time

The society's autumn seminar came and went, but fortunately we can still enjoy the happy memories, useful advice, and the seminar materials that are now available for society members in the society's web library. There you can check how human factors affect our audience's comprehension, the web addresses to all those great resources the speakers mentioned, and what the salary survey revealed this year.

In addition to the lectures, the seminar offered a chance to enjoy the company of the most interesting of our colleagues on breaks and at the unique surroundings of an old gunpowder cellar at the scenic Suomenlinna island fortress.

The society also held its very first press conference at the seminar, which resulted in stories profiling the profession, the society, and the seminar being published in various media large and small.
